Our mission of creating the healthiest meal scientifically possible never stops! After a lot of hard work, we accomplished this mission by formulating an even healthier and tastier Shakement Shake v2.0.
What have we changed?
Increased bag size from 7 to 15 meals.
We received feedback from our customers that the bags were a bit too small. And of course we listened, so we changed the bag size from 445 to 975 grams. Now you can make up to 15 shakes out of one bag and get more value for your money.
8 new and improved flavors.
We have improved our recipes and added real fruit blend to our banana and strawberry flavors, so that our shakes taste even better! Also we developed milk protein (lactose) free shakes, so that Shakement now offers both vegetarian and vegan shakes!
We wanted to add extra functional benefits to our products, for which we searched only the best ingredients available and we found choline.
The body needs choline to synthesize two major phospholipids vital for cell membranes and to produce acetylcholine, which is an important neurotransmitter for memory, mood, muscle control, and other brain and nervous system functions. Choline deficiency can cause muscle damage, liver damage, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
We can synthesize choline in our liver, but this is not sufficient to meet our needs. Therefore we also need to obtain choline from our diet. One portion of Shakement Shake provides 70mg of Choline Bitartrate and this is already 17,5% of the daily reference intake of 400mg/day.
Probiotics have the ability to possibly enhance and strengthen our gut microbiome. The fibers in the shake have a symbiotic effect with the probiotics, meaning that the probiotics become more resistant and support the body. So basically one ingredient strengthens the other one, sweet right?
Improved vitamin and mineral blend (micronutrient profile).
Back in the days there was not so much knowledge on Upper Limits (UL), which are amounts of vitamins which are better not to be exceeded. You might think that taking in more vitamins is better, but this is not the case. Your body needs to process all the vitamins and especially your kidneys are having a hard time excreting the vitamins which are in excess. Vitamin transport proteins are filtered in renal glomeruli and subsequently reabsorbed in the proximal tubules (which are parts of the kidneys). Regularly exceeding the Upper Limit of vitamins can cause health problems such as hypercalcemia, kidney disorders, renal insufficiency, gastrointestinal tract disorders, arterial hypertension (vitamin D), flushing (vitamin B3), constipation (iron or calcium) or intestinal bleeding (iron), which we take thoroughly into consideration and monitor when formulating our products.
Added more Vitamin D
The main activator for the production and uptake of this vitamin is the exposure to sunlight. We increased Vitamin D slightly to counteract the possible absence of sunlight. One portion of Shakement Shake now provides 100% of daily reference intake of vitamin D.
Amount of vitamin b12 has changed
Our latest findings on the absorption rate of vitamin B12 made us more curious and after researching further we’ve found out that there can be a saturation in the absorption mechanism of the vitamin. If this happens, active absorption is severely limited. Studies state that the absorption efficiency of B12 is lower when high B12 content is higher. They showed that the absorption of B12 varies from about 56%, if about 1 microgram or less is consumed, to about 1.3% for doses of 1000 micrograms (1 milligram) or above.
This is why we decided to change the amounts of vitamin B12 in our shake, while making sure that the daily needs and requirements are met for a large part. In persons with normal absorption, an intake of 4–7 ug of vitamin B12 a day is associated with an adequate vitamin B12 status.
Therefore, one portion of Shakement Shake now provides 80% daily reference intake of vitamin B12.
