The composition of SHAKEMENT has been considered carefully. The goal was to make a responsible and tasty product that is easy to use. For more information about the ingredients you can view the list below. For full nutritional labels press here.

Protein sources

Proteins contain essential amino acids. Proteins are necessary for a healthy and strong body. They are the most important building blocks for building and repairing muscle fibers.

SHAKEMENT offers both vegetarian and vegan shakes. Vegetarians eat a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables, dairy products and eggs. Vegetarians who also don't eat eggs, dairy or any other animal products, are called vegans.

  • Our vegetarian shakes contains a mix of two different types of protein: whey and casein. Both are extracted from cow milk. A characteristic difference between casein and whey is the speed in which the proteins are absorbed by the body. Whey proteins are absorbed more quickly by the intestines compared to casein and therefore get into your circulation faster. Absorption of casein takes longer and therefore casein is also called the 'slow protein'. Combination of both result a longer release of proteins. This results in a longer saturated feeling.
  • Our vegan shakes contain pea proteins. It is a source of protein derived and extracted in powder form from the yellow and green split peas. Peas are an excellent source of proteins, carbohydrates, dietary fibre, minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals.

Oats are very nutritious and contain lots of fibers and proteins. It delivers long lasting energy and a long-saturated feeling. Oats contain zinc, magnesium, iron, antioxidants and soluble fibers like beta-glucans. Beta-glucans contribute to a lower cholesterol level in the blood and this positive effect is already achieved with a daily consumption of 3 gram/day. Oats contain glutes (allergen).

Fibers are carbohydrates, but have a limited energy value. However, fibers do have a lot of different positive health effects:

  • They ensure that carbohydrates are absorbed slower into your blood, so that the blood sugar level rises not as quickly.
  • They provide long-lasting energy and provide a saturated feeling.
  • They have a positive influence on your cholesterol level.
  • They have a positive influence on your digestion and intestinal flora (bowel movements).

Maltodextrin is a super carbohydrate from corn and is not sweet. It is absorbed into your body very quickly and delivers energy directly to your muscles, but does not give a huge insulin peak like sugar. Carbohydrates are essential for fat burning and for the proper functioning of your brain. People with an active lifestyle need extra carbohydrates for extra energy. SHAKEMENT contains oats and maltodextrin for an optimal carbohydrate ratio.

Vegetable Oils

Sunflower and linseed are the vegetable oils in SHAKEMENT and provide a nice profile of fats. They are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids in the form of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. These fatty acids contribute to the health of the heart and blood vessels, the immune system and the normal functioning of our brain. Omega 3 contributes to the fat metabolism. Omega 6 reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and fits into a healthy diet.

Inulin is an organic and natural sugar substitute and is known as a healthy substance. For example, inulin can combat diabetes (type 2) because it is a polysaccharide that does not increase blood sugar levels. Inulin also ensures that the body does not produce too many fats, which is very beneficial in the fight against obesity. Inulin also improves palatability and texture of drinking SHAKEMENT.

Vitamins and minerals

The micronutrient mix is a very fine powder that is tailor made for SHAKEMENT and contains 26 different vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are organic nutrients that only occur in living organisms, such as plants and animals. They are essential for growth, energy and health. With a few exceptions, the body itself is not capable to make vitamins, so the vitamins must be obtained from the diet or from food supplements. The difference between vitamins and minerals is that vitamins originate from the so-called living nature, for example from a piece of fruit. Minerals arise from the so-called dead nature, for example from the soil on which the fruit plant has grown. The plant takes minerals up from the soil and distributes them to the fruit, so that you ingest them when you eat it.

Just like vitamins, minerals are needed to keep your body processes functioning properly. Vitamins and minerals (micronutrients) contain no energy (calories), but are essential for all processes in our body. They control digestion and they regulate the production of hormones, such as insulin. In addition, they are necessary for building up bones and body protein, the proper functioning of the muscles and brain (concentration and focus) and they play a key role in the immune system. For these reasons, vitamins and minerals have been added to all our meal shakes.

L-Carnitine, or carnitine, is an amino acid with a number of functions in energy production and fat burning in the body.

Green tea extract (Matcha) and rosemary extract

Matcha and rosemary have a high concentration of antioxidants which keep the skin young and the body healthy. If you are very active, you will burn a lot of energy. Free radicals are released during the digestion process and antioxidants absorb these free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that can cause oxidative stress in body cells, resulting in damage to cells and tissues. Antioxidants ensure a rapid discharge of these free radicals (waste) from our body.

Natural flavours

Each of our SHAKEMENT flavours has a different flavouring additive to create the great taste! All flavouring additives are natural (not synthetic).

SHAKEMENT is sweetened with sucralose and contains no added sugars. Sucralose is 600 times sweeter than sugar and so only a very small amount is used. Sucralose also contains no calories.

Glucose syrup

SHAKEMENT contains a small amount of glucose syrup. Glucose syrup is used in the food industry to soften the texture of the product, to increase the volume, to prevent the crystallization of sugar and for flavouring.

Modified starch

Starch is mainly used as a binder in our food. The modified starch thus ensures that SHAKEMENT becomes a little thicker.

Adding a stabilizer improves the taste and shelf life. We used potassium and sodium triphosphates as stabilizing agent. This may sound complicated, but it is just a posh form of salt.

Xanthan gum is a common emulsifier (to impregnate the oils in the powder), stabilizer (to prolong SHAKEMENT life) and thickener (to improve the texture of SHAKEMENT). The emulsifier sunflower lecithin has also been added, which has the same functions as xanthan gum.

Silicon dioxide ensures that you do not get lumps in your shake. They are small particles that break the surface tension to reduce clumping.
